Art Appreciation Video Project

The Best is Yet to Come

Blacks have overcome so much to prove their power.

What is the Ideological Approach in Art?
The Ideological approach can be described as proving the power that Blacks really have. Blacks have accomplished so much despite the trials that the race as a whole has been through. Individual Black people have constantly proved to us that no individual, race, or institution can with-hold you from the success that rest in your future. These pictures represent those individuals that have reached their success and inspired others that they can do the same. Some of these individuals are historical figures and some are modern day idols.

Elements and Principles evident in the video
Value: The director uses the dark background to make the art/image shown protrude more to the viewer
Time and Motion: The time each work of art/image was slowed down so that the viewer would be able to see the work of art/image and still be able to hear the lyrics from the music
Focal Point: By the use of one work of art/image that is being shown at a time we are forced to focus on the work of art/image that is shown at that time
Rhythm / Movement: Throughout the video the woman was shown get ready to start a track race to represent someone starting their own success in their life

The video exhibits the power, excellence and success blacks have achieved despite the trials that’s the black people have been through over the years.
1.     Civil Rights leaders and people who wanted better for blacks in general, such as Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther king, Jr, opened doors for later generations to become more powerful. People such as Ray Charles and Michael Jackson took their opportunity and changes music for the better in their time. Also athletes, such as Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, and Doug Williams, decided not to allow the hard times blacks have been through to prevent them from becoming the first to do great things in their fields.

The Video introduces many different Blacks that have achieved success in their lives.
1.     George Washington Carver
2.     Martin Luther King, Jr.
3.     Michael Jordan
4.     Barack Obama
5.     Michael Jackson
6.     Beyonce and Jay-Z
7.     Mohammad Ali
8.     Jada and Will Smith

Art Appreciation EXTRA CREDIT

Saturday night crawl in Nashville, Tennessee is an amazing place to walk through to see things you don't see in your everyday life. I can say this has been the best art experience I ever had in my life. I had the chance to view different types of artwork but my favorite I would have to say was the Drip Paintings. The paintings in the photos above where created by a artist who goes by the name Jane Braddock. I had the chance to meet her while she watch people enjoyed and talk among their friends on how amazing her work is and how much they can tell by looking at the paintings. The paintings to me showed me her emotion or something she was feeling while painting. The paintings may look like she just grabbed a brush and splattered paint on a paper but no thats not what she did. While i stood there and got closer I examine she didn't splattered paint just to be messy. I could tell she took the time to splattered the paint in an ordinary way to express herself and get her meaning out to the audience. The dripping of the paint could mean a thousand things but for each person who views it , it can have a different feeling towards each person. I plan to go back to get more experience and see more amazing artwork.

Art Appreciation Critique #1

Art Appreciation 101

An artist that goes by the name of Pawel Kuczynski invented this artwork. Pawel Kuczynski is a polish born and is political art satirist who draws and paints. He attended The University of Fine Arts in Poznan who is known to be a painter, drawer and an amazing graphic designer. His main focus is on satire since 2004 and has been awarded a hundred prizes since then.  This artist uses a lot of meaning behind this piece of artwork. I believe this artwork is trying to give of emotion and feelings towards people who drinks alcohol and how effective it could became after the first drink. The themes that Pawel uses is poverty, politics, greed and also mortality to express things going on in reality and to represent something. The subject matter Pawel artwork is stark and uses the style to do his artwork in a cartoon style way, in a way that doesn’t seem realistic but close to it. According on his past he uses carton style to be able to make it interesting to analyze his work. This art shows a male drinking a bottle of beer, the bottle is red but the more you look at the middle of the bottle is turns a deep red.

The bottle is painting red but if you look at the middle of the bottle the bottle is deep red. Inside the bottle there is a string attach at the bottom of the bottle and a hook at the end when the beer is coming out of. In the middle of the string there is a floater attach so as the beer goes down the hook will eventually reach the lip of the drinker. The artist only represented the hand and the bottle being drunk by a male as it appears by the features of the face I could see and the big fingers identifying a male figure. The artist want us the audience to focus on what’s inside the bottle because of the color that is use on the middle of the bottle is much brighter then that red on the rest of the bottle. The artist is giving us a message to pay more attention on what he is trying to let us know to receive the message.

My personal opinion on this image is a man drinking a bottle of beer and it is a specific type of beer. There is a string in the bottle that is connected to the bottom of the beer bottle and a hook on the inside going towards the drinker mouth. In the middle of the string inside the bottle there is floater that controls the hook getting closer to the drinker mouth.  Feel as in if once the drink goes down little by little the hook is getter closer to hook up on the drinker lip to attach him on the bottle like a fisher hooks fish while fishing to be able to catch the fish and bring it in. This made me do a reality check and I notice the message that I took from his artwork, when people drink and they get attach to it and become alcoholics. The hook represented the man getting attach to it and is not going to be able to give up the beer and if so its going to be hard for him to let the beer go.

Tennessee State University ART Blog assignment #2

Cai Guo-Qiang was born in 1957 in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, China. He was trained in stage design at the Shanghai Theater Academy, and his work has since crossed multiple mediums within art, including drawing, installation, video and performance art. While living in Japan from 1986 to 1995, he explored the properties of gunpowder in his drawings, an inquiry that eventually led to his experimentation with explosives on a massive scale and to the development of his signature explosion events. Drawing upon Eastern philosophy and contemporary social issues as a conceptual basis, these projects and events aim to establish an exchange between viewers and the larger universe around them, utilizing a site-specific approach to culture and history.

The way this artist created the painting with the gunpowder was amazing and they he thinks just amaze me! I feel like as if he expresses the way he feel while making a work of art. Using the gunpowder maybe symbolize something that he has experience in his past such as it could represent harm, powerful or something hurtful.

Art Appreciation

Good Afternoon, hope everyone is having a great day, I am a freshman at Tennessee State University from Atlanta, Georgia. This semester Im enroll in a class that goes by Art Appreciation, class is awesome so far and look forward to learning how to communicate by expressing myself by creating a work of art. There is nothing I dislike about art and believe there will never be anything because art is a way artist use it to express how they are feeling and also communicate or tell a story behind the art work.
This sculpture represents how a human being has the ability to have a relationship with anything. She is holding the giant fish as if in she is walking a dog. Showing that having a dog pet is the same as having a giant fish as a pet, no matter what the animal is there can always be a connection.
This represents the love between a mother and her child, coming from my perspective they both look sad but maybe that is only the expression they are both giving to the audience.

Seeing this work of art made me think of a athlete is tired of trying and he has falling and can not get up. I could see that it may represent that many people try and try so hard to become someone in life and sometimes put their life on the line to be successful.

This is one of the best work of art I have seen and learned a lot just by observing it, to me this shows that no matter where you are at, it could be that you are in space, at school, at home, at the bottom of the ocean but learning never stops and learning is always taking place no mater where you are located.
